AMD Xilinx Zynq-7010 FPGA and ARM Cortex-A9
The STEMlab 125-14 integrates an AMD Xilinx Zynq-7010 SoC containing programmable FPGA logic and a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor.
This architecture allows real-time signal-processing tasks such as triggering, digital filtering, waveform generation, modulation, demodulation, and custom DSP algorithms to operate in FPGA hardware while Linux applications, networking, control software, and user programs run on the ARM processor.
512MB RAM and microSD Storage
The board includes 512MB of system RAM and boots its operating system from a microSD card. The Starter Kit includes a 16GB Class 10 microSD card prepared for use with the Red Pitaya software environment.
Oscilloscope and Signal Generator
The STEMlab 125-14 can operate as a network-connected two-channel oscilloscope and arbitrary waveform generator. Signals can be viewed and generated through Red Pitaya's browser-based software without requiring a conventional standalone oscilloscope.
Spectrum Analyzer
Frequency-domain analysis tools allow users to inspect the spectral content of acquired signals, identify frequency components, evaluate harmonics, monitor RF activity, and perform general signal-analysis experiments.
Bode Analyzer
The integrated inputs and outputs can be used to characterize the frequency response of filters, amplifiers, control systems, and other devices under test by measuring gain and phase over frequency.
Software Defined Radio
The STEMlab 125-14 Starter Kit includes access to Red Pitaya SDR functionality and can be used for software-defined radio development and experimentation. The platform is compatible with SDR ecosystems including GNU Radio and HPSDR-based applications.
Its programmable FPGA architecture also allows experienced developers to implement custom receivers, transmitters, filters, demodulators, and other real-time RF processing functions.
Vector Network Analyzer Capability
Red Pitaya provides VNA software support for the STEMlab 125-14. A compatible external VNA module is required for the complete vector network analyzer hardware setup. This can be used for measurements involving antennas, filters, and other RF components.
High-Speed Data Streaming
Measurement data can be streamed continuously to the microSD card or to a remote computer, making the board suitable for long-duration data acquisition, signal logging, automated experiments, and remote monitoring systems.
Gigabit Ethernet and Optional Wi-Fi
The STEMlab 125-14 can be accessed remotely through its 1Gbit Ethernet interface. A compatible USB Wi-Fi dongle can also be used when wireless network access is required.
- 1Gbit Ethernet
- USB 2.0
- Optional Wi-Fi using a compatible USB dongle
- Browser-based remote operation
- Network-controlled measurement and development environment
Works Across Major Operating Systems
Because many Red Pitaya applications are browser-based, the STEMlab can be accessed from systems running Windows, Linux, macOS, Android, iOS, and other platforms with a compatible web browser.
Remote Programming and Automation
The board can be integrated into automated test systems, research environments, and custom applications using commonly used engineering and scientific programming tools.
- Python
- C
- MATLAB
- LabVIEW
- Scilab
- SCPI-based remote control
- Jupyter Notebook workflows
Logic Analyzer Capability
The Red Pitaya software ecosystem supports logic-analysis applications capable of capturing and decoding common digital interfaces including I2C, SPI, UART, and CAN.
Logic analyzer probes and the dedicated logic analyzer extension module are optional accessories and are not included with the standard Starter Kit.
FPGA and Open-Source Development
The STEMlab 125-14 is more than a fixed-function test instrument. Developers can modify existing applications, create custom web applications, implement DSP algorithms in C, and develop new FPGA functionality using AMD Xilinx Vivado tools.
This flexibility makes the platform suitable for prototyping specialized measurement equipment, embedded instrumentation, communication systems, signal-processing algorithms, and research hardware.
